Weighing in at under one ounce, the nimble Blade® mSR RTF takes ultra micro helicopter performance to the next level. It comes from the factory completely assembled and flight tested with everything you need to get flying. At the heart of the Blade mSR’s design is a Bell-Hiller rotor head that provides the kind of speed and agility you would expect of a single-rotor heli but maintains a measure of positive stability similar to a coaxial heli. This blend of agility and stability makes it the ideal “next step” for someone moving up from a coaxial heli, such as the Blade CX3 or Blade mCX.
For single-rotor ultra micro heli excitement you can fly almost anywhere, the Blade mSR simply can’t be beat.
Man is this thing funAugust 11, 2010 AK(Kentucky) I usually only fly airplanes but decided to have a shot at helicopters. I just discovered micro aircraft and love the whole concept. I can walk into my back yard and start flying. As for this helicopter, it is amazingly stable once you figure out the trim system and how to adjust the swashplate and ball joints. After watching a couple of helpful youtube videos, I got the helo programmed on a Spektrum DX6i and trimmed up and it is stable as a rock in no wind conditions. You don't want to bash the helo into the walls at full power but it is very resilient. Remember to chop the power if you think you are going to hit something and the chance of any damage is low. This thing is a lot more fun than I expected, it gives the dog exercise too chasing it around the house. Highly recommended :)
Incredibly Agile & Durable!August 9, 2010 Cyraph I normally fly a nitro-gas powered Raptor 50 Titan but due to it's size and expense I chose to grab this for something on the side. I learned on a Blade CP Pro & Belt CP so I just had to try out a 4 channel helicopter for once and see how much easier they are to fly. I was definitely impressed!
Foward flight and circuits are very fast and easy with this, but be warned it lacks the power to climb quickly out of a steep dive so be careful at how aggressive you are. It flies for about 5 minutes on a single charge, which takes about 30, and you get TWO batteries in the box! I've crashed it a few times into the grass with no problems, just always remember to power down before crashing! I'd say the weakest part of the Heli are probably the blade grips but each and every single part is replaceable at your local hobby shop or through Horizon Hobby if you need them. The gyro is rate but holds surprisingly well once trimmed in. It does struggle a bit to hold the tail in backwards flight- depending on the speed, which is perfectly normal for something like this. The pirouette rate is very nice and the heli's flybar is angled to give it a sort of "pendulum" characteristic while flying. It flies very well inside and outside flying in a low breeze is a great and rewarding challenge. Definitely good if you're a beginner and even more fun if you're an intermediate to expert. It can hover hands free easily. Overall the equipment is tops and amazing for something of this size and price.
Try to avoid the RTF (Ready to Fly) version if you can. If possible go with the Bind N Fly (BNF) version ($130) and pick up a Spektrum DX5e ($60) - that's a lot better than the stock radio that comes with the MSR's RTF package. I fly with a Futaba 7C 2.4g and it isn't compatible, but luckily I had a DX5e laying around from my Hangar 9 Alpha 40 nitro plane RTF I bought awhile back. The two batteries that come with it should be adequate, but I'd pick up two more because the charger can hold 4 at a time.
Caution-fragile electronicsAugust 4, 2010 Len The msr is fun to fly and stands up fairly well to the occasional crash. The only reason I'm giving it 2 stars instead of 5 is the short life of the on-board electronics. The little circuit board in the msr (called the 5-in-1 unit) lasted 5 months or approximately 60 flights. One day out of the blue, my msr lost binding to my DX6i transmitter and refused all attempts to re-bind. After many attempts to re-bind, I noticed a small puff of smoke from the 5-in-1 unit board. I contacted Horizon Hobbies to ask about warranty or repair and was advised there is no warranty and repair is not "cost effective". They advised only option is to buy a new 5-in-1 unit. This board cost $60 plus shipping, or about 1/2 the cost of a new msr. I plan to spend that $60 towards a new heli. And it will not be another msr.
Works great, but can improve on durabilityJuly 31, 2010 Matt D The Blade MSR is great fun. I went from those cheap 2-channel mini-helicopters you can get from any mall to this helicopter. It works great, but need to keep a few spare parts on hand. It handles very well and is easy to learn. My only gripe is that is a little more "fragile" that I hoped. I keep a tail rotor, tail boom assembly and landing skid on hand at all times.
Once you've mastered flying this heli indoors, you can go outside and try to fly it with some wind mixed into the equation. It handles well, but I recommend flying in very light winds only. Outside, there is the higher chance of a 50 ft crash to the pavement...crunch.
Loads of fun!June 9, 2010 George L. Martinez III(East Bay, CA) This little Heli is Fast!
I have the MCX and bought this one as the next step up.
There is a big difference between the MCX and this one.
This MSR is quick! Sure I broke a few parts, but going full speed into a wall a few times will do that. Besides the parts are easy to find and very affordable.
